Classifying breast cancer cells by hypoxic and normoxic condition
A machine learning project on the early detection of tumoral cells based on whether they are in a hypoxic or normoxic condition.
Hypoxia — a shortage of oxygen inside a tumour — changes how cancer cells behave and is associated with more aggressive disease and resistance to treatment, so being able to read a cell’s oxygen state off its molecular profile is useful both diagnostically and as a way of stratifying samples for further analysis.
This was the project that first showed me what AI methods could do for cancer research, and it is what led me to focus my bachelor thesis on bioinformatics and then to keep working in the field.
